Baan Talae Nok - Guide Thailand - Sawa discovery

Baan Talae Nok

Baan Talae Nok, or the "remote village by the sea," invites you to an adventure at the edge of the world on the Andaman coast. Fishermen's boats, wild beaches, swaying palm trees… but above all, incredibly warm locals await you in this off-the-beaten-path destination in Thailand.

History

The village's ancestors settled in this area 100 years ago. Initially, they came to search for tin on the golden beaches. When the deposits were depleted, they transitioned to fishing.

Like many communities along Thailand's southwest coast, Ban Talae Nok was severely affected by the 2004 tsunami. To aid the village in recovery, an ecotourism club dedicated to local heritage was established with the assistance of Andaman Discoveries. Since the project's inception, visitors have had the opportunity to immerse themselves in life at Ban Talae Nok through homestays. In return, villagers gain a sustainable source of income while expanding their skills in new areas.

The village's commitment and efforts towards ecotourism were recognized in 2008 when the local club received the Kinnaree Award in Thailand's tourism sector, acknowledging its exceptional performance.
