Cha Am

Located in the province of Phetchaburi, Cha-Am is a coastal town known for its tranquil setting and its long beach stretching for about 7 km. This city is situated approximately 170 kilometers south of Bangkok and about twenty kilometers north of Hua Hin.

History

The establishment of the municipality of Cha-Am dates back to 1897. Initially, the district of Cha-Am was called Na-Yang. It wasn't until 1914, after a visit by a sovereign of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, that the city was officially named Cha-Am.

Today

Cha-Am and its beach

Both Thai and foreign tourists come to Cha-Am primarily to enjoy its beautiful beaches lined with pine trees and the peaceful atmosphere prevailing there. Moreover, an activity remains essential on the beaches of Cha-Am. This is the "banana boat," an inflatable banana-shaped buoy towed by a jet ski. As for swimming, the waters are conducive, especially at high tide, but sometimes caution is needed as jellyfish venture near the shore.

This royal building, mostly made of teak wood, was built in 1923 by Rama VI. It is located about 9 kilometers south of Cha-Am. This sovereign wanted to have a summer residence for his stays in the region. The building plans are the work of an Italian architect. This building is in Victorian style. Interestingly, its name refers to the place where Buddha is said to have given his first sermons. Nowadays, the palace has been transformed into a museum, and you can see various objects that belonged to the monarch as well as photographs and paintings.
