History

During the reign of King Mongkut (Rama IV), Mueang Pran was part of the southern region of the Ayutthaya Kingdom.

In 1906, King Chulalongkom (Rama V) consolidated Mueang Pran, Mueang Prachuap, and Mueang Kamnoed Nopphakhun to establish the new administrative district.

In 1915, King Vajiravudh (Rama VI), seeking to avoid any confusion with the region's name, restructured the area into Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.
