Jun 20 2024

Are you wondering how to get to Koh Phi Phi from Bangkok? Whether by plane, train, bus, or ferry, here's a breakdown of the different transportation options to reach the Koh Phi Phi archipelago from the Thai capital.

Flying to Koh Phi Phi via Bangkok and ferry

Flying is the quickest way to reach Koh Phi Phi Islands from Bangkok. You have two main options: flying to Krabi Airport or Phuket Airport, with flight times ranging from 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes. Airfare prices start at around 30 euros and can go up to over 200 euros, depending on the airline and travel options.

Note: It's possible to reach Krabi or Phuket airports from either Suvarnabhumi or Don Muang airports. Airlines such as Bangkok Air, Air Asia, Thai Airways, Thai Lion Air, and Nok Air operate frequent flights between these destinations throughout the day.

Krabi Airport option:

Once at Krabi Airport, you'll need to reach Krabi Town to get to the pier. It's only 14 kilometers away, and you can take the official airport bus (every 3 hours) or opt for a taxi or shared minivan (more economical). It takes about 20 minutes to reach the ferry terminal, where you can board a ferry to Koh Phi Phi. Several ferry companies operate with travel times ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours and prices varying from ten to twenty euros per person.

Attention! There are multiple boarding piers in Krabi. Make sure to double-check which one corresponds to your journey with the chosen ferry company. Additionally, ferries may dock at different piers in Koh Phi Phi: Ton Sai Pier or Laem Tong Beach.

Phuket Airport option:

Arriving at Phuket Airport, you can take a taxi or shared minivan to Rassada Pier Phuket, where ferries depart for Koh Phi Phi. The journey takes approximately 1 hour by road. Ferries between Phuket and Koh Phi Phi operate by various companies with travel times of 1 to 2 hours and fares around fifteen euros.

Good to know: To avoid booking each leg separately, you can opt for combined tickets that cover both transportation and ferry service.

Traveling to Koh Phi Phi from Bangkok by train and ferry

If you prefer not to fly, you can take a train from Bangkok's Hua Lamphong station to Surat Thani station. Opting for a night train saves time, with travel times ranging from 9 to 11 hours. Prices vary between 6 euros and twenty euros, depending on the class of travel. From Surat Thani station, a bus journey of about 5 to 6 hours to Krabi Pier is needed to catch the ferry to Koh Phi Phi. Ferry options and prices are similar to those mentioned earlier.

Traveling to Koh Phi Phi from Bangkok by bus and ferry

Taking a bus is the most economical option. Several bus companies operate routes to Koh Phi Phi, departing from Hua Lamphong's south terminal or Khao San Road. Night buses depart around 7 p.m. and arrive at Koh Phi Phi around noon the next day, taking between 15.5 and 18.5 hours. Costs range from 20 to 30 euros for both the bus and ferry combined.

Good to know:

In all cases, it's possible to book combined tickets for seamless travel between bus and ferry connections.
