The Most Beautiful Hikes in Koh Phangan
Hiking in Koh Phangan: discover the island's most beautiful trails through jungle, waterfalls, hidden beaches, canyons, and exceptional panoramas over the Gulf of Thailand.
Who says Koh Phangan is only for partying? Although renowned for its legendary Full Moon Party, Koh Phangan harbors natural treasures waiting to be discovered through treks and hikes. Proof lies in these 4 trails that deliver views worthy of postcard-perfect scenery. Discover the most beautiful hikes in Koh Phangan.
1. Khao Ra

Also known as Khao Lah, Khao Ra is the highest point on Koh Phangan. It's also the longest trek you'll find on the island. Standing at 630 meters, you can reach the viewpoint by hiking through the jungle. The trek takes approximately two hours. While not considered difficult, the trail can be steep at times. Your reward? A breathtaking view of the northern beaches including Chaloklum Bay and Thong Nai Pan Beach. On clear days, you can even spot neighboring islands Koh Tao and Koh Samui!
2. Bottle Beach

This is the most popular hike among travelers! And for good reason—this trek takes you to one of the island's most stunning beaches: Bottle Beach. Starting from Haad Khom, the marked trail will lead you to the beach in approximately one and a half hours (depending on fitness levels). Once there, you'll enjoy an exceptional setting to unwind. Better still, you won't be overwhelmed by crowds since the beach is accessible only by hiking or by boat. In fact, if you lack the energy for the return journey, you can take a longtail taxi boat from the beach.
3. Haad Yuan & Haad Thian

Head south to discover the stunning tropical beaches of Haad Yuan and Haad Thian. Starting from Haad Rin, the trek takes about two hours to reach the beaches. While the first section is challenging (due to elevation), the rest becomes easier as it crosses a mountainous plateau. At the summit, you'll enjoy a beautiful view of Haad Rin Beach and Koh Samui. You can then descend to Haad Yuan Beach and continue onward to Haad Thian. Like the Bottle Beach trek, you can arrange a return by boat!
4. Phaeng Waterfall

Located in the heart of Koh Phangan, Phaeng Waterfall is the island's largest cascade and also the most accessible. Part of Than Sadet National Park, it offers several short trails. The first is Dom Sila. With an elevation gain of 250 meters, you can reach a viewpoint over the western coast in just 15 to 20 minutes, overlooking Baan Tai and Thong Sala. The second path leads to the waterfall itself, where you can swim in natural pools (weather and water levels permitting). Finally, those seeking more adventure can continue toward the summit of Khao Ra if desired.
Note: Regardless of which hiking route you choose, remember to wear proper hiking shoes, bring water for hydration, and apply strong sun protection to avoid heat exhaustion. Also bring insect repellent.
Since most trails wind through dense jungle, it's best to avoid hiking during the rainy season (except for Phaeng Waterfall, which is more spectacular when full).
