Electricity in Thailand

In general, Thailand produces about 170 TWh of electrical energy per year, with nearly 90% depending on natural gas. Hydroelectric production accounts for only 3.2% of the energy. The tariff is set by the Ministry of Energy at 2.6 baht per kW. Therefore, this country has one of the largest electrical networks in Southeast Asia. The Thai electrical voltage shows a slight difference compared to that found in France, with a voltage of 220 V and a frequency of 50 Hz in Thailand compared to 230 V and 50 Hz in France. However, this should not pose a problem, as the majority of electrical appliances can operate normally until the electrical power exceeds a certain tolerance level. Before flying to the Kingdom of Siam, you should check if your device has a label like this: "Input: 100-240V, 50/60 HZ." This indicates that the device can be used with a voltage ranging from 100 to 240 V.

Do we need an adapter for our plugs?

In Thailand, you will find all types of plugs, namely types A, B, and C. An adapter is not always necessary since the vast majority of hotels, restaurants, etc., have type C or F sockets similar to those found in France. However, we are never immune to encountering type A, B, or even I plugs, and in this case, an adapter will be essential. Therefore, we advise you to bring a power adapter to Thailand as a precaution.
