Although they lack administrative character, regions are the largest subdivisions of Thailand. They share provinces, which are the country's largest administrative subdivisions. The Kingdom of Siam has nearly 76 provinces. Depending on certain administrative and statistical contexts, these provinces are grouped into four distinct regions: Northern Thailand, Central Thailand, Southeastern Thailand, and Southwestern Thailand. This sharing system is most commonly used at the national level or during the organization of certain regional events.
