The spirit of travel

The long-tail boat cuts through the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea while a monk in saffron robes crosses the paved courtyard of Wat Pho. From bustling Bangkok to the misty hills of the Golden Triangle, this journey reveals Thailand's many facets.

The adventure begins in the hustle and bustle of the floating markets of Damnoen Saduak, where female vendors in straw hats negotiate from their colorful boats. Ayutthaya then reveals its forgotten temples, silent witnesses to the ancient kingdom of Siam. In the North, Chiang Rai fascinates with its contemporary temples – the immaculate Wat Rong Khun and Wat Rong Sua Ten with its deep blues – while Chiang Mai invites you to cycle through its peaceful streets among artisan workshops and golden sanctuaries. The tea plantations of Mae Salong tell the story of Chinese refugees, and the Kok River winds through unspoiled nature where Karen and Akha highland communities still live.

The descent towards Krabi marks the transition to another landscape: limestone cliffs sculpted by erosion, secret lagoons accessible only at low tide, and that bioluminescent plankton which transforms every nocturnal movement into an aquatic constellation. This Thailand, far from the beaten path, reveals the true soul of the kingdom where Theravada Buddhism and the art of living have intertwined for centuries.

A dive into the heart of Bangkok

Bangkok•Guide Chiang MaiGuide francophone

Accompanied by your guide, you head to the quays and board a public water bus. Following the waterway, you travel upstream towards the historic center, on the right bank, until you reach the flower market of Pak Khlong Talat. Stroll through the fragrant aisles and immerse yourself for the first time in authentic and traditional Asia.

We set out to discover the architectural jewels of Bangkok. Let us marvel at the splendor of the Grand Palace of Bangkok, built in 1782: a sumptuous ensemble of buildings and inner courtyards, including the Wat Phra Kaeo (Temple of the Emerald Buddha). We discover there the famous Emerald Buddha, a precious statue dating from the 14th century, at the heart of one of the country's most venerated sanctuaries.

Then, on foot, we reach Wat Pho, one of Bangkok's oldest temples, renowned for its peaceful atmosphere and elegant pavilions. We discover there the impressive Reclining Buddha, an emblematic figure of the place, as well as the inner courtyards dotted with stupas and refined decorative details.

Next, we cross the river by small boat to reach Wat Arun, the famous "Temple of Dawn", standing on the right bank. Upon arrival, we can admire its spectacular central prang, finely decorated with porcelain mosaics and floral patterns that glisten in the light.

Cruise aboard a private traditional "long-tail" boat on the Chao Praya river, one of the country's most important waterways and a vital artery of Bangkok. As we drift along the water, we discover the "Venice of the East," between peaceful klongs, stilt houses and small temples hidden along the banks.

Sur les marchés de Thaïlande

Bangkok•Guide Chiang MaiGuide francophone

Departure from Bangkok to join the famous Damnoen Saduak floating market one of the most emblematic in Thailand: a colorful, lively and gourmet break.

Aboard a small boat, you glide along the narrow canals and observe the life of the market along the water: stalls laden with tropical fruits, small shops, boats crossing in a lively atmosphere. You take the opportunity to taste some local specialties, browse around, haggle if you wish, and leave with a few typical souvenirs.

Continuing with a visit to the Wat Bang Kung (Kai Bang Kung), commonly called the Banyan Tree Temple, since its chapel was covered by the roots and branches of a banyan tree. In its gardens, we can notably observe life-size representations of wrestlers, commemorating the Battle of Ayutthaya between Thailand and Burma at the end of the thirteenth century.

We do not leave Amphawa without making a stop at Mae Klong Market, also called "market on the tracks". Here, several times a day, the stalls set up right next to the rails fold up in a few seconds as the train passes… before returning to their place as if nothing had happened. An astonishing scene, perfectly orchestrated, which reflects the daily life and ingenuity of local merchants. (Train passage at 3:30 PM).

We then resume our journey towards Bangkok, after a day punctuated by the most iconic markets in the region.

Journey Through Time in Ayutthaya

Bangkok•Guide Chiang MaiGuide francophone

Bangkok → Bang Pa-In

1h1565 km

We set off to discover the Bang Pa In Royal Palace, an ancient royal summer residence built in the 17th century. Abandoned after the fall of Ayutthaya, the site was completely restored and enlarged in the mid-19th century by King Rama V, who made it a privileged retreat.

In the heart of elegantly landscaped gardens, you discover a harmonious ensemble of pavilions with Thai, European and Chinese influences, testifying to the kingdom's openness during this era. A peaceful visit offering a refined insight into the royal history of Siam.

From the palace, you travel to Ayutthaya by traditional boat, heading upstream along the river. As you glide along the water, you observe daily life unfolding on the banks: wooden houses on stilts, village scenes, and barges laden with rice slowly drifting toward Bangkok's warehouses. Gradually, the silhouettes of temples appear, their spires standing out against the horizon.

You arrive at Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage site, whose remains tell the story of past grandeur.

After lunch, we set out to discover the historic center of Ayutthaya. We explore in particular the Wat Mahathat, a major temple dating from the late 14th century, famous for the Buddha head entwined in the roots of a tree, which has become one of the site's symbols.

The visit continues towards the Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, a former royal temple and the largest in the ancient capital, recognizable by its elegant aligned chedis that testify to the former grandeur of the kingdom.

Finally, we discover the Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, renowned for its impressive reclining Buddha and peaceful atmosphere, offering a beautiful conclusion to this immersion into the heart of Siamese history.

Chiang Rai, at the gates of the Golden Triangle

Chiang Rai•Guide francophone

Your driver takes you to the airport for your domestic flight.

Bangkok → Chiang Rai

1h30800 km

You are boarding your flight to Chiang Rai, a peaceful province in northern Thailand renowned for its misty mountains, lush valleys and more intimate atmosphere. Between singular temples, traditional villages and tea plantations, this region located at the gates of the Golden Triangle offers a more authentic and peaceful discovery of northern Thailand.

We start this day in Chiang Rai by discovering the extraordinary Wat Rong Khun, better known as the "white temple". Created by Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, this site blends Buddhist architecture and contemporary art through surprising murals and numerous symbols inspired by Buddhism and popular culture. Its dazzling whiteness gives it an almost surreal atmosphere.

Continuation towards the Wat Rong Sua Ten, the famous "blue temple", conceived by a disciple of Chalermchai. Its deep blue hues, naga sculptures and immense Buddha give it an atmosphere that is both mystical and modern.

We end the day at Wat Huay Pla Kang, known for its immense white statue representing Guanyin, the goddess of Mercy. Its nine-story pagoda offers a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside and rice fields.

The Golden Triangle

Berges Du Mékong•Guide francophone

Chiang Rai → Berges du Mékong

1h55 km

Early in the morning, we meet our accompanying team before taking the road towards the Golden Triangle and the shores of the Mekong River, in the heart of this mythical region where Thailand, Laos and Burma meet.

From the small local port, we board a water taxi for approximately one hour of navigation on the Mekong waters, offering beautiful panoramic views of the villages and landscapes bordering the river.

We then continue our journey along the banks to a viewpoint overlooking the Mekong and the impressive casino complex with Sino-Roman architecture situated on the Laotian riverbank.

Visit the remarkable Opium Museum a modern museum built on a hillside overlooking the Mekong Valley. Through immersive and documented exhibitions, the site traces the history of the opium trade in Asia, the influence of the Golden Triangle and the economic and social consequences linked to this cultivation. A fascinating visit that allows you to better understand the complex history of this border region.

On the way back, we make stops in several small villages of the Yao and Akha communities, settled in the mountains of northern Thailand.

If you wish, we can also stop in a Padaung community, a branch of the Karenni people originating from neighboring Myanmar, some of whose women wear the famous golden spiral neck rings that give the impression of elongating the neck.

This visit remains however very particular and sometimes raises questions among travelers. Some see it as a form of intrusive tourism, while others consider that these visits also make it possible to generate essential income for refugee communities often living in modest conditions. We therefore prefer to leave everyone the freedom to choose, with full awareness, whether or not they wish to discover this village.

Mae Salong → Tha Ton

1h3060 km

We continue our journey through the mountains of the north to Tha Ton, a peaceful village located near the Burmese border. Bordered by the Kok River, this small town with its tranquil pace captivates with its authentic atmosphere, its ethnic minority villages and its verdant landscapes.

First Steps in the Rose of the North

Early morning departure for Chiang Mai, former capital of the Lanna Kingdom and true cultural heart of northern Thailand. Between century-old temples, gentle way of life, renowned gastronomy and still very present traditions, the "Rose of the North" captivates with its peaceful and authentic atmosphere.

Stop at Bo Sang, the umbrella village, famous throughout Thailand for the traditional handicraft production of its Sa paper umbrellas. This craft, introduced from Burma over a century ago by a monk, has made the village renowned today.

We visit the manufacturing center where several artisans perpetuate this traditional know-how, from the creation of the bamboo structure to the delicate painting of the colorful motifs that adorn the umbrellas.

You then leave the city center to gain elevation heading towards the Doi Suthep temple, perched on the mountainside at approximately 1,200 meters altitude. A true symbol of Chiang Mai, this magnificent Buddhist temple offers an atmosphere filled with serenity and spirituality, where statues, sanctuaries and bells accompany the faithful and visitors in a moment of contemplation.

Along the way, a stop at Wat Pha Lat, a more discreet temple nestled in the forest, appreciated for its peaceful setting and almost intimate atmosphere, far from the hustle and bustle of the city.
