History

Khura Buri, located north of Phang Nga Province on the Andaman Coast, has had several names over time. Originally named Mueang Takua Pa, the region served as the administrative center of the province. It was renamed Ko Kho Khao in 1913 after the provincial offices were moved to the town of Takua Pa. From 1914 to 1917, it was called Pak Nam. Established as a minor district in 1938, the area was finally named Khura Buri in 1968 and became a full district in 1975.
