Koh Nang Yuan is formed by three tiny islands connected to one another by slender strips of sand. The small sandy beach reveals itself at low tide but disappears beneath the waves when the tide rises. The largest of the three islands was once named "Haang Tao", which translates to "turtle tail". This name was chosen for good reason, as the island's shape resembles the rear section of a turtle.

The Japanese Garden spot, for example, is particularly sought after. It's a small bay bordered by granite rocks, with perfectly crystalline waters. Diving circuits are frequently organized from Koh Tao, typically exploring 3 or 4 spots for between 1,000 and 1,200 baht per person.

Experience Scuba Diving

Scuba diving is a sport to pursue without restraint on Koh Nang Yuan. The Nang Yuan Pinnacle spot attracts countless devotees each year. It's easily accessible on the north coast between Koh Tao and Koh Nang Yuan. The area is characterized by large rocks and has a maximum depth of around 19 meters. It's frequented by green turtles, hawksbill turtles and a variety of colorful fish. Beyond Nang Yuan Pinnacle, divers will also find excellent conditions at Shark Bay, Twin Peaks, Green Rock and Chumphon Pinnacle.

Climate

Like the islands of the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Nang Yuan experiences a tropical humid climate. Since the destination is ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving, the best time to visit is during high tide season, which runs from October to March. If you prefer lounging and sunbathing, plan your visit during the cool season, between December and March, when temperatures are more manageable.

How to Get There

Koh Nang Yuan is located northwest of Koh Tao, roughly a hundred meters from its coast. The journey by longtail boat from Sai Ree Beach costs around 150 baht per person for a one-way trip. Once there, you'll need to pay an entry fee of 100 baht for adults and 50 baht for children, as the island is managed by a private company. Tourist opening hours are fixed: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Good to Know

It is strictly forbidden to bring plastic bottles and snacks to Koh Nang Yuan. Environmental protection is paramount. If you get hungry, there's a restaurant on the island, though prices are slightly higher than on Koh Tao.

Koh Nang Yuan captivates many travelers, so to avoid the crowds, try to arrive when the island opens (10 a.m.). This way, you'll be among the first to discover its must-see attractions. When it's busy, you may need to queue to reach the viewpoint.
