Kui Buri National Park
Nestled in the Tenasserim hills, Kui Buri National Park offers one of Thailand's most reliable wildlife safaris to spot wild elephants and gaurs in their natural habitat.
Located in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Kui Buri National Park is the ideal destination to observe wild elephants and gaurs in Thailand. The park is home to diverse wildlife species and promises a rewarding safari experience from Bangkok or Hua Hin.
History
Kui Buri National Park was established in 1999 within the Tenasserim hills in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.
In December 2013, a bacterial outbreak claimed the lives of around twenty gaurs and wild water buffalo within the park, leading to its closure until July 2014.
Exploring Kui Buri National Park
Embark on a half-day excursion to Kui Buri National Park to witness numerous wild animals in their natural state.
Benefiting from lush vegetation, the park comprises dry and wet forests hosting a rich variety of trees and numerous palm species. This natural environment is home to over 300 wild elephants and Thailand's largest population of wild water buffalo.
Beyond these two mammal species, the park shelters golden jackals, deer, Burmese hares, wild boar, Malaysian porcupines, and rare species such as the Malayan tapir, white-handed gibbon, leopard, and Asian wild dog.
Bird enthusiasts will have the chance to spot the Egyptian heron, cattle egret, red junglefowl, and many others.
The Wildlife Observation Zone
The park features a secure observation zone located north of the Huai Leuk sub-station. This serves as the meeting point for all rangers and where you'll connect with your guide for the duration of your visit as you search for wild elephants.
Aboard a safari-style truck, set out on an expedition through the park's lush vegetation. Direct interaction with animals is not permitted, but your English-speaking guide will know exactly where to find hidden viewing spots for optimal wildlife observation. Keep your eyes open and stay alert to capture every moment of your safari!
The Camping Zone
This natural site offers a camping area with basic facilities, though dining options are limited. Tents available at the visitor center can be rented from 270 baht per night. Alternatively, you may use your own tent for 30 baht. Park bungalows are also available for accommodation.
