History

Khura Buri, north of Phang Nga Province on the Andaman coast, has had several names throughout its history. Originally named Mueang Takua Pa, the region served as the administrative center for the province. It was renamed Ko Kho Khao in 1913, following the relocation of provincial offices to the town of Takua Pa. From 1914 to 1917, it was called Pak Nam. Established as a minor district in 1938, the district eventually took the name Khura Buri in 1968 and became a full district in 1975.
