Emerald Pool

Lost deep within the forest, a natural pool with turquoise blue water fascinates visitors and tourists in Krabi. It's the famous Emerald Pool, or Sa Morakot, a masterpiece of Mother Nature that captivates at first sight. Its exotic colors beckon for a swim, an experience to be cherished while it's still permitted. Moreover, the waters are shallow and always at a pleasant temperature.

Site characteristics

The site is part of a complex of pools fed by a common source. These natural pools, including the Emerald Pool, Glass Pool, and the off-limits Blue Pool to preserve its unique ecosystem, are interconnected by streams that weave through the Khao Nor Chuchi forest. Accessible to the public via a long concrete path, each pool is separated by a few meters.

Recognizing the tourist potential of the Emerald Pool, hotels and restaurants have sprung up at the entrance, providing travelers with opportunities to rest and enjoy good food before or after their excursion.

The best time to visit

Krabi experiences heavy rainfall from August to October while remaining warm throughout the year, with temperatures ranging between 28 and 30 °C, making the water consistently ideal for a pleasant swim. To make the most of the weather, plan your visit between January and April or in December.

The Emerald Pool is open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For a quieter experience, visit in the morning. From noon onwards, expect a crowd of students coming to admire the natural pools and enjoy the forest.

The best way to reach this natural pool is by motorbike or private car, allowing you flexibility in the duration of your excursion. A large parking area is dedicated to visitors arriving by vehicle.

The Krabi bus stops by the roadside near the entrance. From there, you'll walk 1.4 kilometers along a trail that winds through the jungle. Upon reaching the visitor center, a wooden bridge crosses the forest and streams, leading directly to the famous natural pool.

Good to know

For jungle trekking, wear sturdy sneakers or hiking shoes for both comfort and safety.

Dress in lightweight clothing to cope with the heat. Shorts and a T-shirt are suitable. Bring along swimwear and a small towel if you plan to swim.

Don't forget to bring mosquito repellent, as mosquitoes are prevalent in the area.
