Formerly Boon Rawd Farm, Singha Park combines Oolong tea plantations and outdoor activities just ten minutes from Chiang Rai.

Formerly Boon Rawd Farm, Singha Park is a sprawling agricultural and leisure estate located in Chiang Rai province, in northern Thailand. Covering more than 8,000 rai (approximately 1,280 hectares), it combines Oolong tea plantations, livestock farming, gardens and outdoor activities, just a ten-minute drive from Chiang Rai's city centre.

Why visit Singha Park

The site offers an uncommon blend in Thailand: an active agricultural estate paired with a leisure park. Rolling hills planted with tea bushes, cultivated fields and open landscapes contrast with the temples and urban atmosphere that often dominate itineraries in the country's north.

The park appeals equally to families and travellers seeking outdoor activities: cycling, ziplines, climbing walls or simply touring the plantations. Free main entry (activities are charged separately) makes it an easy stop to fit into a Chiang Rai visit.

History and background

The estate belongs to the Boon Rawd Brewery Group, founder of the Singha beer brand, one of Thailand's oldest breweries. The farm long operated as an agricultural enterprise before opening to the public in December 2012 as Singha Park, with ambitions to become a destination centred on agriculture and tea.

Part of the agricultural workforce comes from local hill tribes, who contribute to maintaining the plantations and vegetable crops. The estate has thus retained its productive purpose: 237 acres are dedicated to Oolong tea, yielding approximately 400 tonnes annually.

What to see and do

Oolong tea plantations

Rows of tea bushes cover the hills at the heart of the estate. A guided tram tour allows you to traverse the plantations, with stops to observe harvesting and understand the processing stages. Tea tasting is available at the park's tea house.

Outdoor activities

The park offers several facilities:

  • bike rentals (mountain bikes, tandems, children's bikes) to explore the estate's trails;
  • zipline crossing part of the plantations;
  • climbing wall and rope course;
  • small zoo with farm animals and exotic species;
  • vegetable gardens and flower fields depending on the season.

International Balloon Festival

Each year, the park hosts a hot air balloon festival bringing together Thai and international crews. The event, typically organised during the cool season, transforms the site for several days.

Practical information

Park entry is free. Activities (tram, bike rentals, zipline, etc.) are charged à la carte at moderate rates. Allow half a day for a leisurely tour of the plantations and zoo, or a full day if you combine several activities.

Bring water, a hat and sturdy shoes: the estate is vast and the trails are sun-exposed on the hills. A restaurant and several food outlets serve meals on-site.

When to visit

The cool season, from November to February, offers the most pleasant conditions: moderate temperatures, clear skies, soft light on the plantations. This is also when the balloon festival typically takes place.

From March to May, midday heat can be intense; visiting early morning is preferable. The rainy season (June to October) brings lush greenery but risks heavy showers, sometimes brief, which can disrupt outdoor activities.

How to get there

The park is situated about ten minutes' drive south of Chiang Rai city centre. No direct public transport runs from the city. The simplest options are:

  • taxi or tuk-tuk from Chiang Rai city centre;
  • rental car or scooter;
  • private transfer arranged as part of a tour.

Agree on a round-trip fare with your driver, or arrange a specific pick-up time, as waiting vehicles are rare on-site.
