Thailand is perhaps the easiest Southeast Asian country to visit with children. With its paradisiacal beaches, incredible national parks, lush countryside, and very welcoming local population, the Kingdom of Siam has plenty to offer both young and old. Any itinerary in Thailand can easily be adapted for children. Cycling in the countryside, activities with elephants in one of the sanctuaries (never riding them! ), snorkeling to explore the underwater world… the activities are endless!
Thailand is a relatively safe country. The population values its reputation for warmth and hospitality and is happy to welcome families with a smile and always with kindness. Although no vaccinations are mandatory for visiting Thailand, it is still strongly advised to ensure that you and your children's vaccinations are up-to-date. You can consult the list of recommended vaccinations on our page, Health and Vaccinations in Thailand. Stray dogs are quite common in Thailand, and although they are often very friendly, it's best to prevent your children from petting them. Rabies still exists in the country, and we're never immune to a negative reaction from the animal. Between private hospitals (expensive) and public hospitals (very cheap), Thailand offers good-quality healthcare services. However, it's still preferable to have good travel insurance; we're never immune to food poisoning or a car accident. Another potential hazard in Thailand is mosquitoes. Remember to protect your children from mosquitoes, especially in the late afternoon. Dengue fever is a disease present in Thailand that is contracted through mosquito bites. It presents as a severe flu and can be quite dangerous for young children.
When packing your bags for a family trip, there are certain things you shouldn't forget.
Thai cuisine is renowned for being one of the best. However, it's true that it can sometimes be very spicy and not always suitable for younger children. Not to worry; restaurants are now accustomed to foreign tourists, and it's entirely possible to request dishes without spices. Children will also enjoy noodle-based dishes like Pad Thai or fried rice. At markets, you can easily find delicious chicken satay skewers with peanut sauce, which children love. In Thailand, there are also many very sweet exotic fruits. Children will be delighted to eat a juicy watermelon, dragon fruit, a ripe pineapple, or small bananas for snacks.
Thailand offers various means of transportation. Children will love riding in a tuk-tuk around the city. It's fun, cheap, and sometimes gives a sense of adventure. Trains, both day and night, are relatively comfortable and spacious, making them well suited for family travel. To reach the islands, several types of boats are available. Children will enjoy the crossings and might even have the chance to see some dolphins playing in the waves. Sawa’Discovery is accustomed to organizing trips with children of all ages. We will adapt itineraries, activities, and modes of transportation according to your needs.
