Visa for Thailand

Before embarking on a trip to Thailand, it's important to inquire about visa options and other entry formalities. To help you navigate through the possibilities available to you, follow this guide!

Visa exemption

French, Belgian, Swiss, or Canadian nationals benefit from a visa exemption for stays of less than 30 days.

You will only need to provide proof of exit from the country (such as a return flight ticket) at the departure airport. You must also have a passport valid for at least 6 months after the date of entry into Thai territory.

Tourist visa

For those wishing to stay in Thailand for more than 30 days, a tourist visa will be required.

This visa must be obtained from the Thai embassy or consulate, the only competent authorities to issue the famous document.

The tourist visa allows you to stay in Thai territory for 60 days. To obtain it, you must go to the Thai embassy in your country and provide the following documents:

- An original and a photocopy of your passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Thailand,
- 2 color passport-sized photos,
- A visa application form is to be downloaded from the embassy's website.
- A fee of 30 euros is to be paid in cash.
- A photocopy of your round-trip flight ticket,
- A photocopy of financial proof (bank statement),
- A photocopy of the hotel reservation or accommodation certificate.

Visa extension or renewal

Whether you entered Thailand with or without a visa, once you're there, you can apply for a visa extension or stay extension.

This request is made at one of the many immigration offices in Thailand (make sure to inquire locally to find out the nearest immigration office).

The visa extension is for a maximum of 30 days. For this, you need to bring your passport, a photocopy of the passport, a photocopy of the visa, two recent passport-sized photos, and an extension request form that you can find on site. The extension will cost you 1900 baht, or approximately 50 euros.

Arrival and departure card

Upon arrival in Thailand, you will be provided with a paper called an Arrival/Departure Card (usually distributed on the plane or available at the border checkpoint). You must carefully fill out this card (front and back) before presenting yourself to immigration. The officer will then keep the "arrival" part and return the stamped "departure" part to you. Be sure to keep this departure card, which will be requested at some hotels and especially when you leave the country.
